About Me
"Ustatha" is what my students call me. I am a teacher of Arabic for the Shawnee Mission School District in Overland Park, Kansas (suburb of Kansas City). I teach levels one through six. Levels five and six often include heritage speakers. My license is in History and Government 6-12 with an endorsement in Arabic K-12. I am now in my sixth year of teaching Arabic. Two summers ago, I began a Masters of Education in Foreign Language at Concordia College. I recently passed my thesis defense, and plan to graduate in May this year. Teaching Arabic and getting students to be excited to learn about the Arab world is my passion, and I actively seek for ways to grow professionally. I have attended language conferences, training workshops, and have studied abroad during summer teaching sessions through the US state department. In addition, I arrange trips for my students to visit countries in the Arab world every other summer. I was born in Amman, Jordan. I lived in Amman and attended Arabic speaking schools there. In 1997 my family and I moved to Kansas. My previous travel experiences include: Jordan, Israel and the West Bank, Austria, Mexico, Egypt, Qatar, Canada, Spain, France, Syria, and Morocco. |
